- Day 3 – THE BATTLE AREA (included) Today we will follow some of the events of 21st March, seeing battlefield sites and cemeteries largely connected with the Kaiser’s Battle. We start at Ham, a vital communications network and headquarters, and see the British and German graves. At Savy we follow the story of war poet Wilfred Owen, and then move on to Manchester Hill where we discovered the story of the Manchester Pals who defended Manchester Hill to the last man with their commanding officer Lt-Col Elstob, who would win a posthumous VC that day. We then follow the area of the front line to Grand Seraucourt British Cemetery, one of the most important in the area connected with March 1918. At Vadencourt we follow the story of Lt-Col Jack Dimmer VC of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, seeing his grave. We end the day at Maissemy, with the huge German cemetery with nearly 40,000 graves.B
- Day 4 – We return to Arras for some freetime with a visit to the Arras Memorial which also commemorates soldiers who died in March 1918 on the Arras front. Then we travel home via Calais.B
